Hummingbird’s First Meeting with Jeremy Sumpter

Why did you decide to attend the Celebration for the Arts?
Most of all, I really wanted to see Jeremy in person, Plus I am a sucker for children’s charities. Also, I wanted to walk around the pier. I have just moved back out here and I have been trying to check out something different each weekend. So it worked out perfectly.

What was your reaction when you first saw Jeremy?
This is funny, but every thing around me seemed to still. LOL!!! I had the goofiest smile on my face. I kinda froze and kinda lost my breath and all of the noise from the festival quieted. (What a dork huh?)It was so surreal. I could not believe that I was actually seeing him in front of me.

Are you more, or less of a fan after meeting him face to face?
I am even more of a fan after meeting him and seeing how he reacts with his fans....all of his fans. He may have been dressed a Little " Rock and roll" But he seemed very down to earth to me.

What kind of interaction did you have with Jeremy?
I stood in line for my autograph, and when I reached the table , he was being called away to make an announcement or something. He turned to walk away and my heart dropped. My feelings were really hurt....but then I guess he saw me out of the corner of his eye and he stopped and turned back toward me and said, "Oh."
I am not sure if he asked my name or not, but I blurted it out any ways. He signed my autograph as people were calling him to leave the booth. I thought it was so awesome that he took the time out to do that. I did not feel right asking him to stop and take a picture with me. He seemed to be short on time and I was very grateful for the autograph.

What was your day like at the Celebration for the Arts ,and how important was Jeremy's role in that day for you?
The Celebration for the Arts was a wonderful event. Not only for the very important fund raising aspect, but also, a lot of kids from local schools got a chance to perform and to meet some of their favorite actors. It was very inspirational.
For me, it was great to have Jeremy there, because he is one of my very favorite actors, and I was thrilled to have the chance to meet him.

What was the procedure to get Jeremy's autograph?
Waiting in a line.

What was one thing that stood out about Jeremy?
His warm smile, that he graciously flashed to everyone that he met. Also, his eyes are very beautiful. They are really intense.
Also, I watched how he posed for pics with his fans. He leans in close and wraps his arm around them like they are all old friends of his. That is what I mean when I say that he seems to be down to earth.

Have you met any celebrities before, and if so, how did meeting Jeremy compare to those previous meetings with other celebs (was this one more exciting, etc...)?
Yes I have. It was very different. I was pretty nervous about talking to him. I found it very hard to keep my cool and not come off like a big giant dork. LOL!
I can barely remember everything about the moment that he signed my auto graph. It was crazy. Meeting him had quite a profound impact on me.

If given the chance, would you like to meet Jeremy again?
Yes.

Some people who also attended the Celebration for the Arts said Jeremy was acting a little distant and/or "big-headed". What is your take on that?
That is so funny to me. I do not know what they expected him to do. I mean, he gave away head shots and signed autographs. He took pictures with everyone that asked. There is even a pic of him signing someone’s Mom's shirt and then, there is another shot of him giving her a kiss on the cheek. There are not to many celebs out there that would be that cool. There on not alot of celebs out there that would let ya get that close to them either.
I did not see any security at this event. I know he is not a super huge star, but he is the object of many girls affection. Who knows what people have tried, maybe he has a stocker. You just never know. Mark did seem to be very watchful of Jeremy and everyone around him. I was relieved to see him looking out for him so well.I have heard that He was different at this event compared to last years walk. Well...he is older now too. Maybe he is just not quite as goofy as he was before. People grow up.
Also, some celebs are more comfortable in front of the camera and not as comfortable in front of crowds. Maybe he was feeling shy....LOL!!!
Maybe, he was out of state working on those contract negotiations for his new film or meeting with a director or something and he flew in for the event and had jet lag. My point is...(yes there is one) everyone has off days.
So...By my answer to question 4 (interaction w/ Jer) you can see that I do not think he was being big headed or distant......honestly. I feel very lucky to have simply met the guy.
